BBC RADIO 2 – 21st Century Folk

We are so chuffed to be able to announce that we are one of five acts taking part in BBC Radio 2’s 21st Century Folk!

The project matches songwriters to people with amazing stories & this year the theme is sporting stories.

We were incredibly lucky to be paired with the inspirational Jackie Freeman. Aged 61, and nicknamed Jackie Grealish by her teammates, she is the oldest top flight female footballer in the UK. Aged 19 and playing for Scarborough Ladies she was called up to the England squad. However, she sadly couldn’t afford the bus fare to the training camp and so couldn’t join the team. Forty years later, after a career as a shoe repairer, she dusted off her boots and found ther skill and passion was still there.

Our song is all about never giving up the things that you love – and is of course called JACKIE GREALISH.

We performed the song for Jackie back in April – it was so great to see her beaming as we played it! You will be able to see this and hear the song when we perform it live on the BBC Radio 2 Lunchtime show on Thursday 2nd July. Jackie will be there with us as we perform live and chat with Tina Daheley who is sitting in for Jeremy Vine that week. There will also be a 2 hour special on BBC Radio 2 hosted by Mark Radcliffe on Sunday 5th July which will feature all the songwriters, the people behind the stories and more insight into the project. We can’t wait to hear it!

The whole project has been something we’ll never forget – Jackie is such an inspirational person – we can’t wait for you to hear Jackie song and be inspired too!
